Three animation with characters!

TARBOY is actually a really awesome flash animation! I really like the cut scenes throughout the movie and I love the soundtrack and storyline. But above all, I LOVE the characters and their unique style. I like the differences between the characters in real life and the ones within the story being told (within the story). Also what’s really cool is that there’s an animation showing how TARBOY was created! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7qrNQwCcVo&feature=related

I really liked this one because of the impact it has even though it is such a short movie. The characters were awesome, in my opinion. The differences between the two show such diversity within their own specific character even though neither one of them ever speaks a word.

So although this may not be completely appropriate…I’ll still use it! I think the storyline is pretty stupid but the characters are much different than the ones in my other links. These characters are much more immaturely drawn. In the sense that the characters from the other two shorts look much more professional and more finished. I still like the style though, and it shows diversity among creating characters.

Scenes from a Marriage

For Module 3, I picked Scenes from a Marriage to write about! I really liked how the creators designed the animation and how they used relatively simplistic shapes to create their characters while still getting the message clearly across as to what is being depicted. I also really liked how they changed from scene to scene! The transitions throughout the entire short were very cool! Either things would move in and out of screen, creating new scenery right before the viewers eyes or things would get larger or smaller and it was just a very cool way of changing between different parts in the story! I think that that was very creative and made the video have a cool feel about it and I would love to try and work that into my own animated short. I also really liked the story line of the animation. I thought it was very cute and clever and the voice overs in the background of the story narrating the entire thing really made the story very successful.

Octopus Love

For Module 2, I chose to analyze the animated short Octopus Love Animated! (Octopi are my favorite animals ;])

Anyways, I really liked the story line and I the different angles that were used gave the story a cool feeling. Like you were part of the action, not just watching a screen. I also really liked how they decided to make the characters appear in the movie. They  had a 3-d feel and I really liked that! I also liked the cut screens and how they kept the story moving quickly, but not TOO quickly!

Gertie the Dinosaur

Out of the animations shown I picked Gertie the Dinosaur to blog about! All in all I thought that the animation was cute with a funny story line. It didn’t really have anything when it came to angles but seeing as how it was made in 1914, I’m thoroughly impressed! Throughout the movie a lot of it was recycled countless times but again, not really that big of a deal if you account for the year it was made! It kind of inspires me that this kind of a movie was made almost 100 years ago! If Winsor McCay had the tools we have accessible in today’s world, I could only imagine how amazing his animations could be!
